Mentoring Program

The mentoring program of the Department of Geography serves to provide individual specialized advice and support during the course of study. The mentors have an advisory and mediating function and support the students in particular in questions of study design, the course of study, study techniques and the focus of the chosen course of study.

Each student is randomly assigned a mentor by the mentoring officer during their studies. This assignment is made by email to your individual RUB email address (usually firstname.lastname(at)rub(dot)de). You will receive this email at the end of the lecture period of the second semester (SoSe).

As of WiSe 2017/18 (beginning of studies), B.A. and B.Sc. students are required to discuss their study success to date with the assigned mentor at the beginning of the following semester (3rd semester - for the first year: SoSe 2019) after completing the first year of studies. The compulsory consultation is to be understood as an "open discussion" in which possible problems and suitable approaches to solutions can be discussed together with an experienced lecturer from the Department of Geography. Students who do not attend this compulsory consultation will not be admitted to the final examination of the module "Landscapes of Central Europe" (B.A.) or "Landscapes and Ecosystems of Central Europe" (B.Sc.). Beyond this compulsory advice, the mentor is also a contact person for further questions concerning the study program. Accordingly, a regular conversation with the mentor is a voluntary offer to all students!

All students who began their B.A. or B.Sc. studies before winter semester 2017/18 are still required to submit the completed and signed certification form to the Scientific Examination Office at the end of their studies. Proof of at least 6 mentor interviews is required. The certification form can be received from the Examination Office.
