Learning Goals

Students will have acquired basic knowledge of urban and terrain climatology. - The students have acquired basic knowledge of the area water balance and the balancing of water balance variables.

  • Dynamic processes in the climate system
  • Clouds and aerosols
  • The role of the ocean in the climate system
  • Climate change and climate modeling
  • Urban and terrain climatology
  • Climatological remote sensing
  • Physicochemical properties of water
  • Precipitation (precipitation formation, precipitation types, measurement)
  • Groundwater: storage and movement
  • Soil water: potential concept and soil water fluxes
  • Evaporation: physics and calculation formulas
  • Water balance sheets
  • Runoff formation and hydrograph analysis (characteristics, high water, low water)
  • Fluvial sediment transport

Conditions for granting credit points

Minimum of 50 percentage points; regular and active participation in the seminar sessions (max. three absences)

Usage of the module
Compulsory module in the specialization Urban and Landscape Ecology in the M.Sc.-Geography program; compulsory elective module for other Master's students of Geography (M.Sc.).
