The Institute of Geography welcomes Dr Thomas Meister, who joined the Urban and Regional Economics team on 1 September 2022. He is working on the TRANSFORMER project funded by the European Union under its Horizon Europe programme to conceive, develop and test transition super labs driving the transformation of regions towards climate neutrality. Dr Meister studied geography with minors political and historical science at the University of Hamburg and earned his doctoral degree at the University of Bonn with a thesis on the relevance of local governance structures for energy co-operatives in Germany. “The expertise he gained on the transformation of energy systems at the regional scale will be critical for the project’s success over the next two years”, rejoices team leader Prof. Matthias Kiese.
