01. Juli 2026 – Record temperatures in Bochum: highest daily minimum temperatures since the beginning of measurements
The exceptional heatwave at the end of June 2026 led to new records at the Ruhr University Bochum's climate monitoring stations. Both the Ludger Mintrop Urban Climate Station (LMSS) and the Rudolf Geiger Station (RGS) recorded the highest daily minimum temperature since the beginning of their respective measurement periods. Daily minimum temperatures reached 24.7 °C at the LMSS and 22.3 °C at the RGS, clearly exceeding all previous records.

10. Oktober 2025 – New publication from the Bochum Urban Climate Lab: Analysis of nocturnal heat advection in urban areas
Jonas Kittner has published a new study together with colleagues in the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society. The study investigates the nocturnal advection of urban heat, i.e., the transport of air heated within the city into the surrounding areas, and uses a newly developed approach in which data from thousands of crowd weather stations are utilized.

As part of the Data2Resilience project, the Bochum Urban Climate Lab has converted a cargo bike into a mobile measurement station. In the future, the measurement bike will collect climate data to capture thermal comfort in cities and analyze urban heat stress.

On January 26, 2025, the 5th Children's Environmental Forum took place at the Anneliese Brost Music Forum Ruhr. As part of the WATCH project, the initial climate measurements were successfully conducted in September at Städtische Kindertagesstätte Zechenstraße. In collaboration with the Forschungsdepartment Kinderernährung (FKE) at Ruhr University Bochum, the study investigates how changing climate conditions affect water loss in young children.
